Founded in 1980, the Shelton Insurance team has accumulated exceptional risk management knowledge and experience, allowing us to effectively satisfy the insurance exposures of our policy clients. From the very beginning, Shelton has thrived on meeting and exceeding our clients’ needs.
Today, as an Independent Insurance Agency and a partner with Mountain State Agency Alliance, Shelton Insurance represents a large selection of top-rated carriers. These companies have managed to stand the test of time and form Shelton’s solid service foundation.
Guy D Shelton, CPCU - With over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Guy Shelton is the founder and owner of Shelton Insurance Associates. Guy started his insurance career with Travelers in the 60’s. He went on to work in and manage a General Agency and then moved to the independent agency business. In 1980, Guy and Tom Jarrell founded Shelton & Jarrell Insurance. Guy has served in many positions with the state Independent Insurance Agents Association, including as it’s President. His experience and knowledge of insurance contracts makes him an invaluable resource.
Barbie Smithers – Barbie has over 25 years of industry experience and offers extensive knowledge of both personal and commercial insurance. She is the proud mother of two, Carrie and Seth, and Nana of two, Colten and Charli.
Doug Shelton – Doug has over 15 years of industry experience and is currently working on his CPCU designation. His work experience is diverse. Doug was a river guide, video boater, and manager for several rafting companies on many rivers throughout the United States. He also managed WV’s first Brewpub, overseeing both in-house operations as well as distribution in WV, PA, and Maryland. Doug’s decision to return to the family business was largely based on wanting to raise his kids in southern WV.
Laurette Shelton – Laurette has 10 years of industry experience and functions as the Agency’s Office Manager and administrative staff. She is very active in the outdoors with her husband Doug.
